Recently I have been going on early morning walks in my area, which has been so exhilarating and helped me a lot with my mental wellbeing and practice acts of wellness.
How walking can help your Mental Wellbeing
- Help with clarity of thoughts
When the world is moving so fast and you are part of this movement, always working by the clock, it prevents you from having time to think and gather your thoughts. Instead you think on the go, instead of thinking in the right moment. Walking will distract you from any disturbance and help clear your mind from all the racing thoughts you may have and helps with aligning your thought processing, by taking time with your mind. This will help you review your thoughts and create sometime for you to reflect on any thoughts that may be bothering you.
2. Help feeling Calm
Walking will 100% make you feel more relax and mindful, no clock watching, no responding to emails, checking social media or calling friends. Just you alone by yourself relaxing while you stroll. Mindfulness is being able to be allow all your 5 sense to be present in the moment and free form distraction, once you can remain in this state your body will begin to relax and you will feel at peace.
3.Reduce stress levels
Stress occurs when we our thoughts are constantly racing and we have no time to stop and think. Stress can make you feel pressured and may make you act out character. How can you stress when your taking some time out to walk alone and if you are stressed, talk to yourself let the thoughts come out (I have written a post on this, if you haven’t already have a read). Walking also helps to reduce your heart rate and lower your blood pressure.
4. Feeling more motivated
Once you gone out for a morning walk, when you get back home that’s a tick off your list for walking. Hopefully you should also feel motivated and determined for the rest of the day. If you do feel like this act on your feeling and continue with this drive. Set yourself some goals, work on something that you may have been putting off for a while.
5. Act of self-care
When you are doing anything for yourself which provides an act of wellness and make you feel happy within you are practicing an act of self-care. Doing what you love helps with making you feel good and sometimes this can be difficulty. So if you have no ideas of acts of self care, try going for a walk and seeing how you feel when you get back.
If you decide that you want to try this out, you can do this alone or hare the experience with someone. I normally go alone just to give myself some me time, or I may occasionally go with my daughter.
